Hey Pete!

Good to hear from you. I haven't been up to top of the WTC, but I've definitely been in the basement a few times...only German beers down there...no Chivas and black coffee...although it does sound nice.

Hey Bryan,

Nice to see your back blogging again.

Not sure if you've tried it but its worth grabbing a coffee at the restaurant at the top of, I think, 'World Trade Centre' in downtown xinjiekou. Two things stand out, firstly the view (which is great) and second is the amazingly small cups they show up ..dunno if they have wi-fi though.

Maybe Statbucks should offer Chivas & Black Coffee...works for the green tea.

Apparently if you drop a $50/month coffee habit and put it towards a mortgage, one can save some serious cash on interest payments.

I'm still a solid black coffee drinker - a habit which receives flack from certain Nanjing Starbuck employees. "Why don't you get something else?" is a common plea.

My common answer is that it is also three or four dollars here as well.

Different black varieties were still going for about a $1/1.5 (without cup) back when I was at UVic.

I guess I've been out for too long!

I think you will need to master making gourmet coffee at home once you are back in Canada. Starbucks and their clones are becoming more and more expensive. I consider it a 'treat' to go for a special Starbucks coffee in PG. At $3+ it can get pretty pricey if you go for one every day. Ah .......the price of our addictions! Timmy's seems to still be relatively reasonable, but ofcourse they don't have anywhere near the selection.

4C is probably the closest Starbucks/Costa clone I've seen in Nanjing. It still has a very tea-house flavored atmosphere with waitresses taking your order but it does have a bar with uniformed-baristas mixing up teas and coffees.

I also checked out some independent coffee/tea place in Deji called 4C Cafe. Ok view over the entrance of Deji plaza and their coffee wasn't half bad (although rather expensive).

The Taiping Nan Lu store is quite nice - not bad for people-watching providing you get near the window. Do they have wi-fi?
