As I entered my building and began my nightly ascent to my flat, I noticed a strange screeching sound echoing through the stairwell. The sound increased in intensity as I increased in altitude, culminating at the foot of my armour plated, RPG proof blast door.

“Ummm…yeah…that’s not good”.

I open the door to my place only to discover an exploded hot water heater and fountains of H2O spraying across my kitchen.

I just stood there for about 10 seconds completely dumb-founded, watching the water destroy my previously sparkling clean kitchen. The only thing going through my head was “Dammit…I just had this place cleaned” followed closely by”Holy shit…how the hell do I fix that?”

Fortunately for me, my neighbors were well aware of the explosion and I was soon surrounded by seven or eight people eager to offer assistance.

Apparently the incident had occurred about 2.5 hours earlier and the accumulated water had found it’s way down to the first floor. The building owner then appeared with a plumber and promptly went to work on the little disaster…cleaning up all the water and replacing the destroyed pipe system.

My place smells like mold.

…but I did get to meet all of my neighbors.
