While many will disagree with me, I still feel that Hydro is far cleaner than the fossil fuel alternatives.  Carbon emissions may be higher when residual decomposing biomass is added into the carbon equation, yet Hydro will not blank the landscape in a thick layer of fog, cause respiratory problems, destroy tourism, deface buildings and stink up the air.

I will agree that social implications of large Hydro are probably indeed larger than using fossil power schemes.

It&#039;s a tough call.  Definetly depends on the local ground situation.  Using China as an example, coal is used for both heat and electricity.  That means that in addition to the large coal power operations, there are thousands of little furnaces around cities, in addition with tens of thousands of individual coal pots used by the street vendors.
